January 2022 Newsletter

We’re back! We hope everyone got a good deal of rest over the holiday period and feels ready to bounce back to school (when Omicron allows!). We’ve been hard at work over the break on a few updates to share:

NEW FEATURE: Phases for Concept-based Sequences

To improve the flexibility and clarity of our concept-based sequences, we have replaced the week-by-week format with four simple pedagogy-focused phases:

  1. Pretesting and Familiarisation

  2. Learning Opportunities

  3. Demonstration of Understanding

  4. Future Action and Independent Inquiry

All activity content remains unchanged, so any planning current users have done for 2022 will be unaffected. (You can access the previous week-by-week version of each sequence by clicking on the link at the top of each sequence page.)

NEW FEATURE: Project Tags

We have also introduced an easy way to identify activities that are part of a project or connected by a common topic. Project tags are coloured coded and displayed on the right-hand side of each activity.

REMINDER! Introductory Sequences Available for New Classes

Did you know that MAPPEN has short sequences perfect for the start of the school year? Our Developing Our Learning Culture sequences provide teachers with ice-breaker activities, activities to develop classroom rules and expectations, as well immersing students into some of the components of MAPPEN including Habits of Mind and social skills.

These sequences are available to everyone with a current MAPPEN subscription, via the INTRODUCTORY button on the main sequences page.

NEW SEQUENCE: Sudden Changes & Extreme Weather [Year 6]

We have just published the subject-based Year 6 Earth and Space learning sequence, Sudden Changes & Extreme Weather which covers tectonic plates, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, cyclones and droughts.

REMINDER! Online Learning Available

Online learning versions of each of the concept-based sequences are available on our SUPREME package. Online learning supports multi-age classes, high-ability students, and students working from home.

Thank you for your continued support!
