Below are some of the most frequently asked questions we have had from school leaders and teachers.
If you have a different question, please contact us via the live chat feature at the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
Which learning areas does MAPPEN address?
MAPPEN addresses content in Science and Technology, The Humanities, Health, Design Technologies and The Capabilities as well as logical integrations of literacy and numeracy. We have made explicit links to content from the relevant curriculum authority, to learn which learning areas are addressed in your jurisdiction, click here.
How many hours of curriculum does MAPPEN represent in my classroom?
MAPPEN teachers spend between two to three hours a week delivering MAPPEN tasks. The allocation of time to these tasks varies between classes. Teachers are encouraged to move more quickly through content and skills that their students already understand and spend more time on content and skills that require in-depth instruction and practise.
How many hours of professional learning can I attribute delivering MAPPEN to?
Depending on the Australian state in which you teach, the professional learning built into MAPPEN can be used for between 10 to 20 hours of teacher identified learning per year. Teachers can watch videos and add reflections to their professional learning log. They can reference professional standards and download a copy for their annual registration.
How often is the curriculum updated?
We are continually updating MAPPEN based on teacher feedback. Content is updated to address any changes to mandated standards.
What customer support do you provide?
Our unique online platform allows us to respond to questions almost immediately via our live chat feature. Teachers are often surprised when a question about a task or a technical issue is responded to within a few seconds.
Is there anything that I need to install to use MAPPEN?
Our platform is a web application which means that you can access MAPPEN from any computer, tablet or phone with an internet connection. We recommend using Chrome.
Can an individual subscribe to MAPPEN?
Yes. We offer subscriptions to individual teachers for $365 per year.
How can I adapt MAPPEN to suit the needs of my students?
MAPPEN is designed to be differentiated by teachers. Teachers can write notes about how they will adapt tasks and resources to suit the needs of their students. Teachers can upload attachments and share notes and ideas with other teachers in their team. They can record student journal notes, identifying student progress alongside each task.
Can I print MAPPEN?
Unfortunately no, printing is not available. Task titles and intentions can be printed from the 'Printable Overview' under the introduction to the unit.
MAPPEN is designed to be accessed before each task, that way you can access the PD videos, read notes that other teachers have made and download any of the attachments. It is also recommended that you login after each task so that you can mark the previous task as completed as well as make any comments about how the task went.
I need to follow the task method, but am using my laptop for an IWB display. If I can't print a copy, what do I do?
MAPPEN can be easily read on a tablet or smart phone and uses very little data. On a smart phone, where space is limited, the Task Method is the element that is displayed when a task is opened, making it easy for you to follow.
I've forgotten or never received a password, how can I reset my password?
Not to worry. You can generate a new password for your MAPPEN account via the Forgot Password link on the login screen. After filling in the form on the forgot password page you will be sent an email with a link that will allow you to set a new password. If you don't receive this email instantly please check your spam folder or get in touch with us.
The exploration access has expired, can you please extend it for me?
If you didn't get a chance to explore MAPPEN during your 72 hours please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and if you're really nice we'll extend it for you.
