Updates for Term 3, 2019

A New Learning Sequence

We have just published a new learning sequence for Years 3 & 4 Creativity called Frame By Frame which has your students working towards making their own stop motion animation.

Please read Filming Stop Motion In The Classroom to learn what devices your students will need to complete this project. If you don’t believe that you have the resources required for this learning sequence you can still access the original Years 3 & 4 Creativity learning sequence Behind The Scenes.

To celebrate this new learning sequence we are going to host the first annual MAPPEN Stop Motion Film Festival. To participate, visit getmappen.com/film2019 and upload your students’ completed stop motion animations. Entries for the festival will close on the 30th of November, 2019.

We will be awarding prizes for the three stop motion animations that best exhibit the habits of ‘Creating, Imagining And Innovating’, and ‘Striving For Accuracy’. These are the Habits of Mind that are introduced in our Creativity units.

Learning Intentions

We have just published the learning intentions and success criteria for Topsy Turvy Tales. In the coming weeks, we will be publishing learning intentions and success criteria for Robot Buddies, Bizarre Bazaar, Great And Small, Through Generations, Our Island Home, and Data And Decisions.

Student Slides

We are excited to introduce 'Student Slides', a new feature to MAPPEN that allows teachers to display the student instructions within MAPPEN tasks on an Interactive Whiteboard or projected device.

To access Student Slides complete the following steps:

  1. Login in, and click on the yellow Student Slides link on the top bar. Make a record of your six-digit PIN. You will need to enter this on your Interactive Whiteboard or projected device.

  2. Open a web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox or Edge) on your Interactive Whiteboard or projected device and visit https://getmappen.com/slides. Enter your unique six-digit PIN.

  3. Once you have entered your PIN, a slide will appear showing student instructions for the first step in the task that you most recently opened in your MAPPEN account. You can progress through the student instructions, by clicking or pressing on the numbered slides at the bottom of the screen.

  4. You can change which task is being displayed in ‘Student Slides’ by logging into MAPPEN. Each time you open a different task in your MAPPEN account, the student instructions displayed on ‘Student Slides’, will automatically update.

This feature is in beta, which means that we are still trying to iron out all of the technical issues that might arise. If you come across any issues whilst using ‘Student Slides’, please contact mark@getmappen.com or use our Live Chat widget.
